Pipeline Contractor in Spring Hill, TN

Spring Hill straddles the Maury and Williamson county line on US 31, and it is home to one of the largest automotive manufacturing footprints in the state. Plants and their suppliers need gas on an industrial schedule, and the town growing up around them needs distribution behind it.

Open ground around the plants, tight corridors in town

Spring Hill sits on Central Basin limestone at the north end of Maury County, with rock in the trench the rule and the Highland Rim rising to the west. The ground around the plant sites along Saturn Parkway is open and gently rolling, which makes for straightforward spreads once the road crossings are planned.

The town itself has grown fast enough that routes which ran through pasture a few years ago now run past subdivisions, and the corridor along US 31 is full of existing utilities. Locating and protecting what is already in the ground is a daily job on a Spring Hill line.

Saturn Parkway, US 31, and Rutherford Creek

US 31 runs through the middle of Spring Hill, with Saturn Parkway connecting the plant sites to I-65 on the east side and I-840 just to the north. Interstate and state route crossings are TDOT bores; Spring Hill and the two counties handle local roads. Because the plants sit along Saturn Parkway, a short line to a site often carries a parkway or interstate bore in it.

Rutherford Creek and its tributaries drain the Spring Hill area toward the Duck River, and each crossing needs a TDEC permit. A CSX line runs along the corridor, and railroad crossings carry their own agreement and flagging.

Crossings are usually where a pipeline schedule is won or lost, which is why a pipeline contractor working in Spring Hill should have the permits moving the day the route is set. Our post on how pipelines cross roads and railroads walks through the methods, and horizontal directional drilling is the tool for the river and highway crossings that cannot be open-cut.

Automotive load and the town growing around it

Automotive manufacturing and its supplier network are the main gas load in Spring Hill, with the plants along Saturn Parkway and the supplier parks around them. Typical scopes are transmission tie-ins, new pipe to plant sites, and meter stations sized for industrial loads.

Residential growth in Spring Hill and Thompson's Station adds distribution work behind the industrial load, and commercial development along US 31 adds tie-ins and stations for retail and office sites. All of it is work we self-perform, from the tie-in to the commissioned station.

Built to the start-up date of the plant

A Spring Hill job is a little over an hour from the yard, close enough that crews and equipment come from Gallatin without a mobilization line worth talking about. The parkway and interstate crossing permits and long-lead materials like large valves and meter station skids are the schedule drivers, and they start the day the route and the load are known.

Construction runs the standard sequence: clear and grade, string, weld, coat, trench through limestone with existing utilities located and protected, bore the roads and creeks, lower in, backfill, hydrotest, and restore. On a plant site the meter station is usually the last piece to commission, and we schedule backward from the day the plant needs gas.

Where the crews come from does not change how the job runs. Pipeline construction in Spring Hill follows the same sequence we run everywhere, and capacity comes from spreads and crews sized to the route, and the same safety program and superintendents run every site. There is a longer walk-through of the whole sequence in how a pipeline project comes together.

Who we build for along the Saturn Parkway corridor

In Spring Hill we build for automotive and industrial manufacturers and their suppliers along Saturn Parkway, for the gas utilities and midstream operators serving the corridor, for power generation projects, and as the pipeline partner for EPC and design-build firms delivering plant and supplier sites.
